+ Showers

We provide a supply and install or install only service.

Electric showers, thermostatic showers, digital showers, bath shower mixers, power showers, concealed showers, multiple outlet showers.

If you need installation or repair for your shower please get in touch for advice about the type of shower that will suit your needs.

Electric showers

An electric shower heats the water as it passes through, the water is mains pressure cold water.

The wire is heavy gauge, the more powerful the shower and the further from the consumer unit will mean heavier the gauge wire.

Thermostatic showers

A thermostatic shower keeps the water at a constant temperature using the internal thermostat, these are most commonly a bar or concentric. These are the perfect showers for a combi or unvented cylinder.

A good quality bar shower is around £150, these should last for many years.

Digital Showers

Digital showers are a new type of shower. Easy to install and they will be easy to replace in the future.

These digital showers look very modern and suit high-end bathrooms. The control has a digital display which is located near the shower. The shower mechanism known as the mixer is located somewhere easy for maintenance, in the loft is common, but they can go under baths, in cupboards etc.

One digital shower can feed multiple outlets like a rain shower head and a handheld shower. Some can even replace a bath tap, the water fills the bath via the overflow hole.

The digital mixer can come with a pump too for poor water pressure systems.

Concealed showers

Concealed showers or built-in showers are thermostatic showers hidden behind the tiles.

We advise purchasing a good quality shower from a manufacturer who has spares available, cheaper concealed showers are a bit of a nightmare, if spares aren’t available they have to be changed which means tiles off the wall! We recommend aqualisa, mira, bristan, trevi. Or consider a digital shower instead.

Power showers

A power shower is where the shower incorporates a shower pump. We call a shower that has a pump built into the shower body a power shower. But a power shower could refer to any shower that is fed by a shower pump eg. a thermostatic shower with a shower pump in the airing cupboard.

When replacing a power shower it’s best to get a straight replacement as there will be no pipework and wire changes.

If considering installing a power shower from new we recommend a pumped digital shower.

Multiple outlet showers

These can be simple like a thermostatic bar mixer with a diverter, which feeds a rain head and a handheld head. Or a concealed shower with pipework hidden behind the tiles. A digital mixer can feed multiple outlets.

Shower Pumps

If you have poor shower pressure, a shower pump can be a easy fix. A correctly installed shower pump will be connected to the cylinder via a flange. There is a minimum height distance between the header tank and the shower pump.

If the shower pump is to be installed near the header tank or in the loft you will need a negative head shower pump.

+ Boiling Water Taps

A boiling water tap is a stylish and convenient way to provide boiling water in the kitchen. Save time serving guests or cooking tea with instant boiling water at your kitchen sink.

The boiling water unit is fitted in a kitchen cupboard near to your kitchen sink tap. You can choose an all-in-one tap that can provide boiling, hot, cold, filtered and even sparkling. Use our contact form to provide us with some details of your requirements.

+ Water Softeners

Lincolnshire has some of the hardest water in the UK and the only way to remove the limescale is with a water softener. Hard water is defined by the amount of calcium and magnesium in the water. In Lincolnshire the water is hard due to the amount of limestone in our ground.

A softener uses filter media to attract the calcium and magnesium, this sticks to the media.

Once the softener media is full the chamber is filled with a saltwater brine, the brine causes the media to release the calcium and magnesium. The brine and scale is then flushed out of the softener to a drain.

There is a wide variety of softeners available with varying prices, the more expensive ones have better media, longer guarantees and are “more efficient”.

More efficient means the amount of salt they use and the amount of water used to flush the media.

We recommend softeners that are efficient, an efficient softener will save you hundreds of pounds over the years.

+ Hot Water

Hot water cylinders

Sometimes called a hot water tank, immersion or hot water boiler is usually found in the airing cupboard. There are many types of cylinders available and Central can help you with any type. We can replace, install or remove hot water cylinders.

Vented cylinders, sometimes called a copper cylinder, immersion or a copper tank is the traditional regular type of cylinder. This type of cylinder is gravity fed by a cistern usually found in the loft or top of the airing cupboard. This type of cylinder is usually good for baths and not quite so good for showers. Often we see them fitted with a shower pump to increase pressure. If your property has high hot water usage with at least 1 bath a day, a vented cylinder is the correct choice. If your property has low hot water usage eg. properties with an electric shower, or shower only properties, then a combi will have lower running costs. Old copper cylinders without foam jackets will waste a lot of heat, it is recommended to get these replaced.

Unvented cylinder, this is a modern type of cylinder, they are fed directly by the cold mains. Typically installed in larger newer properties, they are very good for baths and showers, and the hot water can be used at multiple outlets. The pressure and flow rate does depend upon the cold mains pressure available, so if your pressure is poor then this will not work well without a mains booster tank. Usually an unvented cylinder will be compared to a combi boiler when the customer is looking at the available options. Compared to a combi an unvented cylinder will provide more hot water flow rate, which means a bath will fill much faster, and multiple outlets can be used at the same time (subject to cold mains pressure). So while an unvented cylinder will provide more hot water, it will use more energy (gas/oil/LPG) and more water. We would say an unvented cylinder is best for comfort and of the worst for running costs.

Solar cylinder There are 2 types of solar cylinders. Solar-thermal and photovoltaic. Solar thermal is where a liquid is heated by the sun and is circulated around a separate coil on the cylinder. This type of solar panel look like bars and are not common. These cylinders are called twin coil cylinders. The other coil is used by the normal heat source (boiler). Photo-voltaic are the most common type of solar panel. The panels produce electricity which powers immersion heater(s) in the cylinder.

Direct or indirect? A direct cylinder is only fitted with immersion heaters, these are usually found in properties with no boiler. Unfortunately electric is around 4x more expensive to heat water than gas. Indirect is a cylinder that is heated by the coil via a boiler/other heat source.

+ Immersion Heaters

Immersions come in all shapes and sizes, if yours has failed then please take pictures of your cylinder and immersion heater and email us admin@centralplumbers.co.uk we will then be able to quote you for the correct immersion supply and fit.

Immersion heaters are usually the back-up source of heat for your cylinder, they are powered by electric and are around 3KW. If an immersion is to be left on permanently or for a long time then it will be worth installed a titanium immersion.

+ Toilets

With modern toilets there is no longer a 1 part fits all, there are dozens of manufacturers with hundreds of possible toilet spares so we will need information before we attend.

If you have an issue with a dripping toilet or one that won’t flush please send pictures of the toilet and inside the cistern to admin@centralplumbers.co.uk we can then bring all the correct parts that might be needed to repair your toilet, we will only charge for parts used.

If your cistern lid cannot be removed please email a picture of the button as we should be able to identify the manufacturer from that.

+ Washing machines, dishwashers & fridges

Please get in touch with your requirements. We can install and replace your kitchen appliances but we do not offer a repair service for any kitchen appliances. We recommend and use JCS appliance services for kitchen appliance repair and maintenance.

+ Drinking water filter

Some drinking water filters require professional installation, please provide us with the details of the filter which you would like installed. Some filters like the reverse osmosis filters need a lot of cupboard space, please check dimensions prior to purchase and installation.

Combined kitchen taps with filtered cold water are a neat way of providing filtered drinking water. Some manufacturers can even supply chilled and sparkling water too.

+ Commercial plumbing

Central have a projects department that deal with all commercial enquiries. We carry out installation and maintenance in commercial properties across lincolnshire and nottinghamshire in schools, hospitals, hotels, nursing homes, public buildings, businesses, factories, farms.
