Liam using Heat Geek’s new Zero Disrupt Software. Creating a 3D scan of the customers home.

By Liam, Resident Heat Pump Guru at Central Plumbing & Heating.

I’ve been designing and installing heat pumps for years now. I love the heat pumps themselves, the challenge of designing systems that align with the buildings they will heat, the maths behind the system design and the quiet hum of the air source heat pump doing exactly what it should.

So when Heat Geek launched their new design platform “Zero Disrupt” and tooling for installers, it got my attention. This isn’t a flashy gimmick. It’s a practical set of tools that helps us design systems smarter, faster and with a lot less guesswork. In short: better design, less upheaval, happier customers. (Heat Geek)

Zero Disrupt combines data collected from 1000’s of scanned homes and monitored live systems. AI is then used to design a heat pump system for your home with the least disruption and the lowest cost physically possible.

This technology, uses complex calculations to determine what parts of your existing heating system can and can’t be used in your new heat pump system. So we can tell more accurately when we need to swap out existing radiators or hot water cylinders.

That’s a game changer for many homes looking to move away from fossil fuels without the massive price tag or the extra disruption caused my replacing all existing elements.

What the new kit actually does (in plain English)

Heat Geek’s platform gives installers a proper digital toolkit. We scan the client’s house with a LiDAR scanner, creating a three-dimensional model and running accurate heat loss calculations without scribbling notes on site. It calculates the effectiveness of existing radiators and pipework, and whether they can be used with a new heat pump.

It uses AR (augmented reality) to virtually place a new heat pump in its proposed position, including clearances and noise calculation. The client is then presented the proposal with options for higher efficiency and heat pump locations. (Heat Geek)

Real world gains, not just geeky toys

Heat Geek aren’t offering empty promises. They are the only company to guarantee the new system efficiency, aptly named the “Heat Geek Guarantee” whilst keeping system changes to a minimum. Using years of real-world data from Heat Geek installations, they are able to accurately calculate system efficiency.  The platform has been built from thousands of installations and data points, which means the designs we produce are informed by real results, not just theory. That kind of evidence matters when you are telling a household their existing radiators and pipework can stay in place. (Heat Geek)

Training and community (and why that’s important to me)

Technology helps, but it isn’t a replacement for experience. That’s why Heat Geek pairs the software with training and a community of top-level installers. I like that approach. It means the tool is not being used by people who don’t know what they are doing. It’s used by trained engineers who understand the physics and the practical bits and who are supported to keep getting better. That combination is exactly what we need if the industry is going to get heat pumps right. (EU-Startups)

What this means for you, the homeowner

If you are looking at a heat pump, here’s the practical bit that matters to you:

  • You get a bespoke design based on measured data, not a rule of thumb or an assumption. (Heat Geek)

  • An efficiency guarantee backed up by the Heat Geek guarantee.

  • Minimum upheaval, keep existing radiators and pipework.

  • Ongoing system analysis and monitoring from Heat Geek (Heat Geek)

Not a silver bullet but it is a big step forward

I’m not saying software fixes everything. A good tool in inexperienced hands is still a problem. But pairing this software with proper training, real installers and a focus on real world performance is the right move. It’s the difference between a system that “should work” and one that actually does. Heat Geek have built something practical and useful, and we’re adding it to our toolbox. (Heat Geek)

Final word from me…

I’m passionate about doing this properly. If you want a system that will be efficient and actually reduce your bills then the design stage matters as much as the hardware. This new Heat Geek platform helps us be the best versions of our engineering selves. That’s good news for homeowners and businesses who expect heating to be one less thing to worry about.

If you want to chat through what this means for your home or business, give us a call. I love a good heat loss calculation and I’m happy to walk you through one. No jargon. No pressure. Just a proper conversation.
