Boiler Installation FAQ

How Much Does it Cost to Install a Boiler?

Every boiler installation varies depending on your system requirements and specifications. The pricing can range from £1500+vat to £10,000+vat. The average domestic combination boiler swap is around £1800+vat to £2400+vat. When you contact Central Plumbing & Heating we will help to advise you on the best heating solution for your property based on your specifications and budget. We will arrange a survey appointment in order to give you an accurate quote.

Why do you need to do a survey to give me a quote?

We arrange a survey to make sure you do need a new boiler; sometimes heating issues can be fixed and you might not need a new boiler. At Central Plumbing & Heating we always like to ensure that we advise you on what’s in your best interest. A survey will also help us to identify what you want and to what specification you’d like the boiler to be. This will prevent any hidden additional costs so that we can give you the best quote.

What is involved in a boiler installation?

Our professional boiler installation service will include a site survey, a quotation, and a detailed job schedule. Your new boiler will be installed by a highly qualified Gas Safe engineer to the highest standard.

Your existing boiler and/or heating system will be replaced and maintained in accordance with the agreed specifications. The installation will also include a full flush of the system which will be carried out after the installation to ensure maximum system efficiency.

We maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and health & safety. The necessary working areas will be covered, with carpet protector and dust sheets to make sure your property is protected and the area is left nice, clean and tidy. Once the job is complete your dedicated engineer will take you through the installation and provide you with the manufacturer manual and warranty pack. We take extra care to ensure that all your questions are answered and should you have any questions after the installation then our friendly team will be happy to assist.

What size boiler (kW) do I need?

It depends on the size of your property and the type of system that you have. Factors that are taken into consideration include how many bedrooms, bathrooms and the type of system you require. For example, the average three bedroom house with circa 8-10 radiators may require a Combi boiler that is small or medium (24-30 kW). Whereas a larger home with more radiators and a high heating output requirement may require a larger boiler (30-35 kW). This is just an example as there are many other factors to consider.

As part of the survey we will help to provide you with the best advice on what solution will meet your needs and budget. We go the extra mile to make you’re happy with your decision. You can also download our Free Boiler guide to help you consider important factors when purchasing a new boiler.

What are the different types of boilers?

For domestic gas boilers, typical systems include:

Regular – heat only boiler, pump and cylinder external

System – heat only boiler, pump internal and cylinder external

Combination – heating, hot water, no cylinder

How often do I change my boiler?

This will depend on several factors including your property type, usage and regular maintenance. Typically, modern boilers have a lifespan range of 10 to 15 years.

To ensure maximum efficiency and economy, this is what we recommend. We also recommend annual servicing to ensure maximum lifespan and energy efficiency. An annual boiler service will also ensure your boiler warranty remains valid.

How long does a boiler installation take?

It depends on the size of the system and requirements. The length of time can vary from 1 day to 5 days. As part of the survey and quotation we will advise you on the timing and any recommendations.

What types of boilers do you install?

We offer and install a full range of boiler brands – including Baxi, Worcester Bosch, Vaillant – and we will help to advise you on the best options based on the specifications of your property and requirements.

What is a System Filter or Protector?

This is part of manufacturer requirements to meet the guarantee. The system filter protects the boiler from system dirt deposits which reduce the lifespan of the boiler and its efficiency.

Do I need a heating system flush?

Manufacturers warranties require at minimum heating flush. For systems with large build ups of system sludge we recommend a full system power flush to ensure maximum efficiency and full life span of the new boiler.
